The original Commodore John Barry Elementary School was demolished in order to accommodate the new school on the same site. The new four-story, 94,415 SF facility serves an enrollment of 646 students, grades pre-k through 8.
The building is a steel-frame, metal panel construction with a concrete stair tower on cast-auger pile foundations. Challenges to the construction team on this project included a tight location in a thriving neighborhood, bounded on all sides by rowhomes.
Commodore Barry Elementary achieved a LEED™ Gold certification by the USGBC.
