Pennsylvania Convention Center Expansion

With the 878,455 SF expansion project, the Pennsylvania Convention Center nearly doubled in size. The construction also provided a new main entrance for the massive facility.

Hung from a tube steel frame, a dramatic glass facade lines the east side of Broad Street. The new entry is prominently positioned under a two-story trellis. Like the original structure, the expansion is clad in cast stone, metal panels, brick, limestone and granite. A combination of poured-in-place waffle slab and steel frame construction supports the long span trusses of the divisible Exhibit Hall. With the Hall’s new 260,000 SF, it is the largest contiguous exhibition space in the North East.

The expansion also includes a new 57,000 SF Ballroom, and an additional 63,000 SF of meeting space, totaling 2.3 million SF of saleable space over three city blocks. The project was constructed by a joint venture of Daniel J. Keating Company and Keating Building Corp, called The Keating Joint Venture.

Lastly, Daniel J. Keating Company was proud to be apart of helping this project achieve a LEED GOLD certification level awarded in 2011 by the USGBC.
