Francis J. Myers Recreation Center

Daniel J. Keating was selected as the general contractor for the extensive renovations of the Francis J. Myers Recreation Center in Southwest Philadelphia. The center is named in honor of former State Senator Francis. J. Myers in 1965 – he was a distinguished business, civic and government leader who represented most of West Philadelphia and Southwest Philadelphia in the United States House of Representatives from 1939 to 1945 and represented Pennsylvania in the United States Senate for one term from 1945 to 1951.

The recreation center is a 7.6-acre park that includes playgrounds, a pool, basketball courts, and sports fields. It also includes a three-story building that has a gymnasium, public computing center and multi-purpose rooms. The improvements to the beloved recreation center building and key elements of the park will create a safer and more accessible space for families in the southwest Philadelphia community.

The renovations at Francis J. Myers Recreation Center are funded by the City of Philadelphia’s Rebuild Initiative and the Department of Parks & Recreation. Made possible by the Philadelphia Beverage Tax, Rebuild is investing hundreds of millions of dollars into neighborhood parks, recreation centers, and libraries. Addressing years of deferred maintenance and lack of investment, Rebuild is reviving the community spaces that residents rely on, and communities thrive in.
